The “Fantastic 4” found themselves stranded in space at one point, caught in a cosmic storm, which resulted in them being “bombarded” by cosmic radiation and gaining superpowers. The most charming of the four is the Invisible Woman, who can vanish right before our eyes.
“We see thanks to light, which emanates from the sun or lamps, strikes various objects, scatters at various angles, and reaches our eyes. However, if we trick the light, then we trick our eyes as well and can make something invisible.” This can be achieved with “metamaterials,” a class of materials that are still in the experimental stage. They are alloys and combinations of materials, such as silicon, silver, copper, and glass fiber, which, when used with the right combination and geometry, allow light rays to “ignore” the arrangement of the metamaterials, and thus, no one can see us if we stand on top of it. With this specific method, we become invisible only if we are viewed through specific filters and remain motionless so as not to disrupt the geometry.
Another method is based on stealth aircraft technology, which remains invisible to radar because it is constructed from a material with “unusual” angles and properties that manage to reflect radio waves away from the radar.
Nature offers yet another solution: the art of camouflage, which the chameleon masters perfectly by taking on the same hue as its surroundings.
